Hong Kong-based Energy World Corp. Ltd. is planning to construct a power portfolio in the Philippines which includes natural gas facilities and renewable energy power plants, along with investments beyond $1 billion. The company’s natural gas projects include two liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub terminals worth approximately $150 million, and a 300 MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant which needs around $300 million.
Russian company delivers two GTU-10P gas turbine plants

A M501J gas turbine, manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), has achieved two major landmarks by exceeding an accumulated 8,000 hours in operation and more than 100 starts. The turbine, installed in a gas turbine combined-cycle (GTCC) validation power plant at the company's Takasago Machinery Works, features an inlet temperature of 1,600°C, and went into operation in February 2011.
Southern Company subsidiary drives economic growth

Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, recently began commercial operation of Plant Cleveland, a 720 MW natural gas facility located in Cleveland County, N.C. The plant has expanded the company's natural gas portfolio and is the third generating facility that Southern Power owns and operates in North Carolina.
Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne clinches $5m project from US

The U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency has selected Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, a United Technologies Corp. company, to receive more than $5 million for three cost-sharing projects designed to improve the efficiency and reduce the cost of gas turbines in commercial-scale power plants.
NET Power receives £4.9 m grant for carbon capture program

NET Power recently announced the receipt of a £4.9 million grant from the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change as part of the Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) Innovation Program £20 Million Competition. The grant will fund further R&D and manufacturing of both developing and proven high-performance materials that enable NET Power's novel, clean, low-cost power generation technology to reach extremely high efficiencies.
