Three new combined cycles improve efficiency, reduce emissions

Three new power plants officially began serving North Carolina customers at the end of 2012, representing a combined investment of nearly $3.65 billion and marking another significant milestone in Duke Energy's commitment to meet electricity needs with cleaner generation.
Marubeni Corporation, in partnership with Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd. in Korea, has been awarded a contract from Bangladesh Power Development Board for the construction of a 400MW gas-based combined cycle power plant in Bibiyana. The contract agreement was signed recently in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Sasol's R1.9 billion gas engine power plant in Sasolburg went live recently and began producing electricity as part of the facility's test phase. The plant, using natural gas as feedstock, has an operating capacity of 140 MW and is the largest power plant using gas engines installed in South Africa.
Centrax recently announced that it has won a new order for the supply of two CX501-KB7 generator set packages to Nobel Oil in Russia. The two outdoor packages will be located at an oil and gas facility in the Yuzhno-Oshkoye Field which is located in Russia's Komi Republic, approximately 1,000 kilometers northeast of Moscow. The 5.2 MWe generator sets will each be used to power the oil extraction plant at the site, and will be powered by associated gas from the oil production process, significantly reducing quantities of gas flared at site.
Alstom to service gas turbines in the Ivory Coast and Jordan

mso-bidi-font-family:Arial\">Alstom has been awarded two contracts for Long Term Service Agreements (LTSA) for GT13E2 gas turbines in the Ivory Coast and Jordan. The contract for the Azito power plant in the Ivory Coast covers a 15 year period and includes the delivery of spare parts, reconditioning services and inspection supervision for the gas turbines and generators.
Wood Group's solutions for GE heavy frame turbines

Wood Group GTS and Rockwell Automation have formed a strategic partnership to facilitate the joint development of a fully integrated, open architecture controls platform for power generation applications. This relationship enables Wood Group GTS to deliver services beyond a typical system integrator, working collaboratively with Rockwell Automation to provide GE heavy frame gas turbine operators with the first open architecture, fully integrated controls platform.
Dominion to develop fuel cell project in Bridgeport

The facility will produce 14.9 MW of electricity, using a reactive process that converts natural gas into electricity. Dominion has acquired this development from FuelCell Energy Inc.
French power manufacturer Alstom will build a combined cycle heat and power plant in Cologne, Germany for RheinEnergie AG, a regional service company providing energy and drinking water in Cologne and the Rhineland region around Cologne. The Niehl 3 CHP power plant, to be commissioned in 2016, will have an installed capacity of 450 MW, using natural gas as its fuel.
