Cape Canaveral Next Generation Energy Center goes online ahead of schedule

Florida Power & Light Company announced recently that its Cape Canaveral Next Generation Clean Energy Center has begun generating electricity from clean, U.S.-produced natural gas. Over its operational lifetime, the new fuel-efficient plant is expected to provide FPL customers hundreds of millions of dollars in fuel and other savings over and above the cost of construction.

GTS's automated combustion tuning technology selected for Frame 7FA fleet

Wood Group GTS recently won a contract to install 15 ECOMAX systems, an automated combustion technology, of which 12 units have already been installed. The owner of a large fleet of combined-cycle power plants in the US has awarded the contract. The remaining units are scheduled to be installed later this year.

Rolls Wood Group achieves 100th Avon 200 gas turbine upgrade

Rolls Wood Group (RWG), a joint venture between Rolls-Royce plc and Wood Group, recently completed the 100th Rolls-Royce Avon 200 industrial gas turbine upgrade. To mark the milestone, members of the RWG Board visited the company’s 35,000 square foot facility in Dyce, Aberdeen and congratulated the team on the achievement.

Siemens to provide maintenance for Russia’s largest combined cycle plant

Siemens Gas Turbine Technologies (SGTT) and power producer OGK-2 sealed a long-term service contract for PGU-800, Russia's largest combined cycle power plant (CCPP), at the recent 2013 Russian International Energy Forum in St. Petersburg.

Siemens will provide maintenance of the gas turbines and generators for a period of 12 years. The first inspection with execution of scheduled work is expected to begin next month.

GE’s DLN gas turbines to power LNG liquefaction project in Maryland

GE Oil & Gas recently said it has received contracts to supply gas compression trains for Dominion’s Cove Point Liquefaction Project in Lusby, Md., adding liquefaction capabilities will transform the existing Cove Point liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal into the first LNG terminal capable of exporting LNG on the U.S. East Coast.

World turbine market to reach $162 billion in 2016

The world market for turbines and related products (turbine-based engines, generators and generator sets) is expected to rise 6.4 percent annually to $162 billion in 2016. The global wind turbine market expanded sevenfold between 2001 and 2011 to become the single largest turbine product segment, overtaking turbine engines. Wind turbines will continue to be the fastest growing turbine product type through 2016, but a much higher base of existing capacity will limit the growth rate to a more moderate level.

Alstom wins gas turbine maintenance contract for England’s 1260 MW plant

Alstom has been awarded a €120 million contract by Centrica Energy for gas turbine maintenance services at the 1260MW South Humber Bank combined cycle power plant (CCPP) in North East Lincolnshire, England. The agreement covers five Alstom GT13E2 gas turbines installed at the plant over the next seven years. In accordance with the deal, Alstom will deliver the parts and equipment for all the planned inspections, as well as supply all necessary craft labor and on-site technical field advisors.

Gemma Power Systems to develop 825MW gas-fired power plant in Pennsylvania

Argan, Inc. announced recently that its wholly owned subsidiary, Gemma Power Systems (GPS) entered into a Consent and Intercreditor Agreement in connection with the construction and design of an 825MW gas-fired power plant in Pennsylvania.
