The GT13E2 gas turbine used in different applications, is a medium sized gas turbine of the 200 MW class. It has a 21-stage compressor with a variable inlet guide vane, an annular combustion system with closed loop combustor cooling and a 5-stage turbine. The annular combustion system includes 72 EV (EnVironmental) burners. The EV burner is a dry low NOx burner with a long operating history and is used in the entire Alstom gas turbine portfolio. Pratt & Whitney Power Systems to host energy efficiency seminars

Pratt & Whitney Power Systems (PWPS), a provider of Organic Rankine Cycle solutions for waste heat, biomass, geothermal and solar thermal power applications, will host the California "Waste Heat to Power Road Show" from March 20-22 this year. The three-day event will include experts from industry, finance and government and will focus on the importance of industrial energy efficiency, specifically reducing energy costs and utilizing the California Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) funding to reduce investment costs.
GE’s advanced gas turbine technology to power Texas project

GE’s advanced power generation technology has been selected for a project near Marble Falls, Texas, that will replace an aging, less efficient power plant with a flexible, higher efficiency combined-cycle power plant that offers reduced fuel use, emissions and water consumption for the power it generates.

Akron's FirstEnergy Corp. has proposed adding 800 megawatts of peaking generation at its Eastlake Plant in Lake County. Four new combustion turbines are needed to assure there is sufficient electric power in the East Coast-Midwest region as FirstEnergy prepares to close nine of its old coal-fired power plants, the company said.

Alstom, the global power generation company announced recently at Russia Power 2012, that it is introducing an upgraded version of its GT13E2 gas turbine. The GT13E2 gas turbine is Alstom’s offering in the E-class gas turbine1 market.
Atlanta-based GE Energy has signed contracts worth about $20 million to upgrade and maintain gas turbines at a power plant in Mersin, Turkey. The GE Frame 9E Gas Turbines at the Mersin plant produce 125 megawatts of power each. GE will provide maintenance and outage services for a new GE Frame 9E Gas Turbine for 10 years and to upgrade an existing GE Frame 9E Gas Turbine at the plant, which will boost the output of the unit by 2.3 percent.
MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz AG has completed the acquisition of Swiss-based magnetic bearing specialist Mecos Traxler AG, based in Winterthur (Switzerland). A further step towards a close partnership has been taken following several years of joint research and development and successful compressor train installation with Mecos' magnetic bearing technology.
The acquisition by MAN Diesel & Turbo's Oil & Gas Business Unit in Zurich (Switzerland) will further push the joint growth, especially in the Oil & Gas business.
GE has recently announced a wind farm contract with German project developer Energiekontor AG for four wind power generating projects comprised of 41 2.75-103 wind turbines. Using a proprietary 50.2-meter blade with a proven aerodynamic shape, GE’s 2.75-103 wind turbine provides a larger blade swept area giving wind developers greater energy capture and improved project economics.
The U.S. Department of Energy recently unveiled a six-year, $180 million initiative for the development of offshore wind energy. An initial $20 million will be available in 2012 as the first step in supporting up to four innovative offshore wind energy installations across the U.S. According to DOE, offshore wind is an enormous potential resource for the U.S., with an estimated 4,000 GW or more in potential power generation.
