Medical School wins $5.6m power grant for campus plant upgrade

University of Massachusetts Medical School has won a $5.6 million energy efficiency grant from National Grid to make upgrades to its campus power plant. The cash will go toward helping the medical school add capacity to its power plant while reducing emissions. UMass Medical School is spending $50 million to expand and improve its power plant.

Capstone receives 10MW order from Eagle Ford shale play

Manufacturer of microturbine energy systems Capstone Turbine Corporation announced recently that it received two large orders totaling approximately 10 megawatts from two oil and gas producers in the Eagle Ford shale play. Capstone distributor Horizon Power Systems secured the orders in the first week of April for 13 Power Packages, which will supply prime power at each central gathering site.

Opra to provide OP16 gas turbine powered genset to Germany

Gas turbine power solutions provider OPRA Turbines B.V. has announced recently that the company will supply an OP16 gas turbine powered genset which will operate in CHP (combined heat and power) mode to Crespel & Deiters, a leading German wheat starch producer with focus on the corrugated-board and paper industries.

Centrax updates generator package at German district plant

UK-based Centrax Limited has scored a repeat success in the German district heating market. The Newton Abbot Company has supplied its latest CX501-KB7 generator package to Stadtwerke Oerlinghausen GmbH, south-west of Hannover, where it replaces a Centrax CX571 package installed back in 1989. 

Wood Group disposes off US-based Turbopower to CPR Aerospace

Energy services company Wood Group recently announced the sale of its US-based aero engine maintenance provider, Wood Group Turbopower LLC to CPR Aerospace, Inc. The business has been reported as discontinuing for several years. The gross assets of the business disposed were $18.7m.

FlexEnergy names Jay Mitchell as Chief Executive Officer

FlexEnergy Inc. has announced the appointment of Jay Mitchell as Chief Executive Officer, who served most recently as the company's President and Chief Operating Officer. Joseph Z. Perry, who has served as Chief Executive Officer since April 2009, will remain a FlexEnergy advisor and shareholder.

Mitchell has served as an executive officer at publicly traded companies that manufactured equipment for the energy industry. Throughout his career, he has raised almost $1 billion in capital for companies ranging in size from large public companies to small startups.

Capstone to sell C1000 microturbine to CHP plant in Singapore

Capstone Turbine Corp. will sell a Capstone C1000 microturbine that will be installed in a combined heat and power plant in Singapore. N&N Agriculture Pte Ltd, a high-tech egg farm, purchased the C1000. The power package, which is fueled by biogas generated from animal waste in an anaerobic digester, will generate reliable, low-emission electricity and thermal power.

GE to supply nine turbines to wind projects in Ontario

Turbine manufacturer GE will soon supply turbines to 9 new wind power projects in the Canadian province of Ontario. The turbines will deliver a combined capacity of 650MW to the Canadian grid, taking GE’s total capacity in Canada to 1.2 GW by 2015. The order highlights the speed at which Canada’s wind market is developing, particularly in Ontario, where renewables-friendly legislation has boosted investment.
