Siemens has been awarded an order for the turnkey supply of the Panda Temple Power Project in Temple, Texas, U.S. The company will supply the combined-cycle power plant (CCPP) in consortium with its partner, Bechtel. The multi-shaft combined-cycle plant will be a Siemens Flex-Plant 30, with a gross installed electrical capacity of 758 MW.
Southern Company announced recently that the largest biomass plant in the U.S. is putting electricity on the grid in Texas. Austin Energy is receiving energy from the plant through a 20-year power purchase agreement. Southern Company President, Chairman and CEO Thomas A. Fanning joined state and local dignitaries at the company's Nacogdoches Generating Facility to mark commercial operation for the 100MW unit.
Alstom to provide steam tail for gas-fired plant in UAE

Arabian Bemco Contracting Co. and GS E&C have selected Alstom Thermal Power for a contract worth over €100m to supply steam tail for the 2,175MW Riyadh PP12 gas-fired power plant. The thermal power plant located 100km west from the capital of Saudi Arabia is being constructed by the companies for the Saudi Electric Company.
Capstone Turbine penetrates Colombian natural gas market

Capstone Turbine Corporation, a manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, recently received multiple orders from two natural gas service companies in Colombia that total two MW of prime power generation. The first of the two new orders secured by Capstone Distributor Supernova Energy Services was for the purchase of two Capstone microturbines -- a C1000 and C200 -- which will be used in a combined heat and power (CHP) application for a large gas treatment plant near Yopal, Colombia.
China Ming Yang Wind Power Group Ltd, the New York-listed wind turbine manufacturer, is considering acquiring Vestas Wind System, a maker of wind turbines, according to a China Daily report. “Ming Yang will offer 1.4 to 1.5 billion euros ($1.72 billion to $1.97 billion) to buy the Danish company,” says China Daily, citing an unnamed source.
Rolls-Royce, the power systems company, has been awarded contracts worth US$136 million to supply technology and long-term services support to Dolphin Energy Limited, which transports natural gas from Qatar to UAE and Oman via a 364km subsea pipeline.
Rolls-Royce will supply Dolphin Energy Limited with three industrial Trent gas turbine compression packages. The three new trent units, each rated at 52MW, will join six similar Rolls-Royce packages that went into service at Dolphin Energy’s Gas processing plant in Ras Laffan, Qatar, in 2006.
Wood Group GTS secures combustion inspection contract

Wood Group GTS has been selected as the service provider for a combustion inspection at a power generation facility located in Kansas on a GE Frame 7EA dual fuel gas turbine. Under the contract, Wood Group GTS will provide a complete solution for major maintenance services including field services, component repairs, provision of DLN-1.0 (Dry Low NOx) combustion parts and controls tuning.
Dresser-Rand, a supplier of rotating equipment and aftermarket parts and services, has commenced construction of a new $25 million assembly facility which is expected to start operations in late 2012. At this new facility, Dresser-Rand will assemble mission-critical compressor modules for use in the production of oil and gas in the extensive pre-salt fields off the coast of Brazil. Additionally, the company will repair industrial gas turbines and will also package engines/generators and cogeneration systems for the oil & gas, industrial and marine sectors.
