Latest developments displayed at pump symposium

11/28/11

This year's Turbomachinery Symposium in Houston included a parallel Pumps Symposium and Exhibit. Turbomachinery International took the opportunity to interview pumps manufacturers about the latest trends and technologies. 3MPumps discussed multistage centrifugal pumps while Ebara International Corporation called attention to the problems that eddy currents cause centrifugal pumps and expanders, and how these could be resolved.

Other vendors focused on alternatives to centrifugals; LobePro suggested positive displacement pumps as a better way to deal with abrasives and highly viscous materials. Leistritz highlighted its multiphase rotary screw models while Atlas Copco JC Carter showcased motor pumps used in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) applications. Centrifugal pumps were widely on display throughout the exhibit hall by vendors such as 3MPumps.
