GE HA gas turbines installed at 1.8 GW UAE combined cycle plant

The United Arab Emirates’ first two, of three, GE HA gas turbines have been delivered, and are currently undergoing installation and commissioning works at the 1.8 GW Hamriyah Independent Power Plant. The plant will feature three GE 9HA.01 gas turbines, three steam turbines, six generators and three heat recovery steam generators (HRSB).

GE and Sumitomo Corp. announced plans in 2019 to develop, build and operate a 1.8-GW combined cycle power plant in the United Arab Emirates.

The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with GE and Japan-based Sumitomo.

GE also will supply turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the power plant in the UAE port city of Hamriyah, Sharjah. Sumitomo and GE Capital’s Energy Financial Services will partner with Shikoku Electric Power Co. and Sharjah Asset Management to form an equity consortium for the project.

They billed the project as the first independent combined cycle power plant in Sharjah. SEWA will buy power produced from the consortium under the long-term PPA. GE will also supply parts, repairs and maintenance over the 25-year period.
