Siemens strengthens gas turbine pact in Iraq

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity and Siemens have signed a contract to overhaul equipment including two SGT5-2000E gas turbines at the Al-Sadder facility in Baghdad.

Siemens will perform 3-dimensional turbine blades and vanes upgrades at Al-Sadder, a 600-MW station generating electricity for about 600,000 homes. The company has worked in Iraq for more than 80 years.

The upgrade project is promised to improve the efficiency of the turbines by up to 2 percent.

The agreement also includes the plant’s SPPA-T3000 control system, the supply of anti-virus solutions as well as the support from Siemens’ Remote Expert Center, which is a 24/7 online maintenance support service, enabling more efficient fault diagnosis and troubleshooting.

Siemens also has supplied SGT5-2000E gas turbines to the Khormala power plant in northern Iraq and the Baiji generating station, among other projects in the past decade.
