The company’s gas turbine and refrigerant compressor technology supports an additional 6 MTPA of LNG capacity and lower emissions at the Texas-based facility.
Bechtel Energy recently awarded Baker Hughes a contract to deliver main liquefaction equipment for Train 4 at NextDecade’s Rio Grande LNG facility in the Port of Brownsville, TX. The complete order includes two Frame-7 gas turbines and six centrifugal compressors, replicating the technologies installed on the first three LNG trains.

Previously, the company entered a framework agreement to provide gas turbines, refrigerant compressors, and contractual services for Rio Grande LNG’s Trains 4 – 8.

In late August 2025, Baker Hughes obtained a 90-month service award for bp’s Tangguh LNG plant in Papua Barat, Indonesia, which covers spare parts, repair services, and field-service engineering support for the facility’s turbomachinery: heavy-duty gas turbines, steam turbines, and compressors for three LNG trains. Baker Hughes is cooperating with PT Imeco Inter Sarana, a local partner, to deliver local content per the agreement.
The long-term service agreement will ensure reliable operations for bp’s Tangguh LNG facility, which plays a key role in Indonesia’s energy strategy by supplying reliable energy for the Asia-Pacific region. By maintaining the performance and availability of critical turbomachinery, LNG operation may continue uninterrupted.
Baker Hughes and bp have partnered since 2009 for the Tangguh LNG project and, in 2024, the company supplied additional critical power and compression systems. Also, Baker Hughes recently expanded its service capability in the Asia-Pacific region, addressing its energy expansion and transition requirements.
In July 2025, Saipem awarded Baker Hughes a contract to supply three advanced CO2 centrifugal compressor trains with electric motors and Lufkin Gears gearboxes for Eni’s Liverpool Bay carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in the United Kingdom. This order was booked in the first quarter of 2025.
Baker Hughes’ complete compressor package will be used to reinject CO2. This is part of Saipem’s initiative to transform a traditional gas compression and treatment facility at Point of Ayr, located in North Wales, into a CO2 electrical compression station. This station will enable the permanent storage of CO2 in offshore depleted fields beneath Liverpool Bay.
The Liverpool Bay CCS project, which has recently achieved financial closure, will serve as the backbone of the HyNet Cluster, which aims to transport CO2 from capture plants across the Northwest of England and North Wales, utilizing new and repurposed infrastructure for safe and permanent storage in Eni’s depleted natural gas reservoirs located under the seabed in Liverpool Bay.
