Gazprom commissions two combined cycle gas turbine units in Russia

Gazprom recently commissioned two combined cycle gas turbine units (CCGT-420) in Russia, one at CHPP-20 power plant in Moscow and the other at Serov SDPP power plant in Sverdlovsk region. Each turbine unit has an installed electric capacity of 420 MW, with an efficiency of 58%.

With the commissioning of the new turbine units, consumers in Moscow and the Serovo-Bogoslovsky energy hub are expected to receive reliable supply of energy. The construction projects for the CCGT units at CHPP-20 of Mosenergo and the Serov SDPP of OGK-2 were implemented using Siemens gas and steam turbines, and exhaust heat boilers manufactured by Power Machines.

Russian Minister of Energy Alexey Miller said, "For the first time in the history of Gazprom, two new combined cycle gas turbine units with an aggregate capacity of 840 MW have been commissioned at once. Since entering the power industry in 2007, Gazprom has commissioned some 7GW of new capacities so far."

Overall, seven combined cycle gas turbine units with an aggregate capacity of 2.9 GW (more than 21 per cent of the company's total installed capacity) were built at Mosenergo power plants. Over the period of operation, combined cycle gas turbine units are said to have proved their production and economic efficiency, making it possible to save natural gas and significantly reduce air emissions.
