GE has won a $1.4 billion order from the Iraqi government to build two power plants that will generate 1.5 GW of power.
The contract also includes the upgrade of four additional plants later on that will bring that number up to 2 GW.
The two power plants that GE will build in Samawa and Dhi Qar will each use four GE 9E gas turbines. In a second phase of those two projects, GE will add combined cycle technology to the 9E turbines to allow them to generate additional power from waste heat using heat recovery steam generators and steam turbines.
