Mitsubishi Battery Project

185.5 MW / 371 MWh battery storage in Ireland

Ion Renewables Ltd., a renewable energy developer, is working with Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. to create four battery energy storage system (BESS) projects totaling 185.5 MW and 371 MWh in Ireland as part of their Emerald storage solutions.

This project will provide energy storage and system services to Ireland’s Grid. The systems enable fast frequency and capacity response for power disruptions. The sites have existing electrical interconnects.

Mitsubishi is including project engineering, equipment supply, and a 10-year long-term service agreement in the package.

In addition to providing frequency response to the National Grid, the BESS projects corroborate with Ireland’s Climate Action Plan, EirGrid Group’s DS3 program, and REPowerEU’s draft directive.

Completing in 2024, the four BESS projects will increase the total global capacity of Mitsubishi’s storage solutions to more than 2 GWh.
