Ansaldo Nucleare and SNC-Lavalin collaborate for a nuclear power plant modernization project in Romania.

Ansaldo Nucleare has entered into an agreement with SNC-Lavalin to provide engineering services for the life extension of Unit 1 at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania. The project, part of Romania's nuclear energy company Nuclearelectrica's modernization initiatives, is valued at approximately €45 million. Unit 1 of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant will reach 30 years of operation by the end of 2026. Significant modernization work is necessary to enable a plant life extension by an additional 30 years. It is expected to require a shutdown period of approximately two and a halfyears.

As the original designer, Ansaldo Nucleare will manage the plant work. The engineering and data collection done during this phase will allow for accurate identification of the necessary tasks to extend the plant's lifespan. This collaboration sets the stage for potential future projects, such as the construction of Units 3 and 4. Unit 1 currently accounts for 10% of the country's energy needs.
