PetroVietnam Power’s (PV Power) Nhon Trach 3&4 plants will be the first HA-powered plant in Vietnam, as well as the first to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The new combined cycle power plant will use GE Gas Power 9HA.02 gas turbines. The plant is expected to improve the reliability and stability of the energy grid to support renewables penetration. Once in operation in 2025, Nhon Trach 3&4 power plantwill deliver 1.6 GW of electricity to the grid.
This is part of a governmental strategy to move away from coal. Vietnam prefers natural gas to nuclear generation and has expressed a desire to build dozens of natural gas plants in the coming years.
