Tegtmeier of EthosEnergy Emphasizes Plant Fundamentals, Remote Monitoring Tech

Author(s)James Cook

Remote monitoring delivers comprehensive plant control/overview, but Tegtmeier says that it shouldn’t replace standard operating procedures, equipment criticality, and other fundamentals.

In Part 2 of Turbomachinery International’s interview with Daniel Tegtmeier of EthosEnergy, the conversation shifts from prioritizing heat rate and flexibility to his company’s role in accelerating the new energy transition; specifically, by coupling 24/7 remote monitoring with power plant fundamentals. According to Tegtmeier, there is no top-shelf remote monitoring system that can overcome poor maintenance and/or operational procedures, so technology and standardization must be complementary.

Additionally, he further clarified EthosEnergy’s role in the energy transition at POWERGEN International 2026. Unlike other OEMs, which often monitor individual equipment, EthosEnergy can view and control the entire power plant to ensure operation with reliability, efficiency, and ease for its customers.

TURBO: Aside from flexibility and heat rate, what would you identify as other supporting pillars for the energy transition?

Tegtmeier: There’s one vital aspect: Resist the temptation to abandon the fundamentals. There is still a good, proper, and prudent way to operate and maintain power plants—you cannot sacrifice that. The best remote monitoring in the world can’t overcome some foundational weaknesses in plant processes. At the end of the day, things like standard operating procedures, equipment criticality, and more remain extremely important to the reliable and efficient operations of a power plant.

TURBO: Are there upcoming projects, collaborations, strategies, or technologies that EthosEnergy would like to highlight?

Tegtmeier: I’ve already spoken about our 24/7 remote monitoring, but EthosEnergy is an OEM for 7FA, 7EA, 6B, and any vintage or legacy Westinghouse turbines and with these come long-term service agreements. One aspect that our customers like from our 24/7 remote monitoring services is that we monitor the whole plant. Often times, OEMs will focus on the gas turbine or other parts and pieces, but the supporting cast really impacts reliability and performance. We model each and every piece of equipment and that gives our customers peace-of-mind.
