Venture Global Signs Power Frame Agreements With Baker Hughes, GE Vernova for Up to 16 Gas Power Islands

The behind-the-meter framework covers 720 MW units delivered from 2028 through 2034, mainly for LNG operations, with data centers as a possible add-on.

Venture Global has signed power frame agreements with Baker Hughes and GE Vernova covering up to 16 gas-fired power island units, Baker Hughes said Oct. 15.1 Each unit is rated at 720 MW, according to Reuters, which would put the full program at about 11.5 GW.2,3

What the Framework Covers

Baker Hughes would supply gas turbines, steam turbines and related equipment and services, along with controls and electrical integration technology for each island, including the E-house and electrical control systems.1 The design builds on the LNG power island Baker Hughes previously deployed for Venture Global.1

Deliveries are scheduled from 2028 through 2034. Venture Global expects to place its first power island purchase order by the end of 2026, with more orders starting in 2027.1 The release did not name sites, MW ratings or turbine models.1

The sources do not agree on how the units divide between suppliers. Reuters reported that the split was not disclosed.2 TIKR, a financial analysis site, reported that eight islands are reserved with GE Vernova so far.3 GE Vernova's own newsroom had not posted a release on the agreement as of Oct. 23.

Behind the Meter, Beyond LNG

The primary use is behind-the-meter generation for LNG production and liquefaction, with possible future data center projects adjacent to LNG sites.1 Venture Global said the units could support up to 10 GW of compute capacity by the end of 2034, subject to customer commitments and market demand. They would add to the 4.5 GW of gas-fired generation the company already runs, and would operate without drawing on public power grids or water utilities.2

"Behind-the-meter power generation has emerged as a critical component to LNG operations," said Lorenzo Simonelli, Baker Hughes chairman and CEO. "Baker Hughes is helping to bridge the gap between energy capabilities and industrial aspirations."1

Turbomachinery International reported in August that Baker Hughes doubled its LNG equipment scope for Venture Global's CP2 expansion.4

What Is Firm and What Is Not

A power frame agreement sets terms for future orders and is not a fixed purchase commitment.1 TIKR described little as firm beyond reservation fees, and said it was unclear whether the GE Vernova reservations count toward that company's gas backlog.3 Open questions include which sites come first, how many megawatts each supplier carries, and which turbine models will be used.

For buyers watching large-frame availability, the notable detail is the length of the runway. A program delivering through 2034 shows how far ahead developers are now reserving capacity.
