Arabelle Solutions Secures Supply, Maintenance Contracts for Two Nuclear Projects
Key Takeaways
- Arabelle Solutions and Dongfang Electric Corp. signed a 10-year service agreement for Taishan nuclear power plant's steam turbine and equipment maintenance.
- Arabelle's collaboration with Dongfang Electric extends their partnership, having built and maintained Taishan's original steam turbine generators.
The company will service and maintain multiple units at the Taishan nuclear power plant, in addition to supplying a steam turbine, generator, and controls for the Natrium Wyoming plant.
Dongfang Electric in China
The EDF Group’s Arabelle Solutions signed a 10-year service collaboration agreement with the Dongfang Electric Corp. to service and maintain units 1 and 2 at the
“We are very pleased to provide ongoing servicing and maintenance for the turbine island and associated equipment with Dongfang Electric at Taishan Units 1 & 2,” said Catherine Cornand, Chief Executive Officer of Arabelle Solutions. “Enabling the safe, long-term operation of nuclear power plants plays a key role in the provision of reliable, low-carbon electricity to future generations.”
The official singing occurred at the World Nuclear Exhibition in Paris on November 4 and extends a long-standing partnership between Dongfang Electric and Arabelle Solutions. Previously, the two companies built the original steam turbine generators for the Taishan nuclear power plant, with Arabelle conducting maintenance services for units 1 and 2.
“Arabelle Solutions has expertise in providing essential services to maintain, maximize, and extend the lifetime of nuclear power plants around the world, as well as in the manufacture of turbine island technology,” said Arnaud Westrelin, Executive Vice President of Services, Arabelle Solutions. “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Dongfang Electric.”
Natrium Plant in Wyoming
Bechtel recently selected Arabelle Solutions to supply a nuclear steam turbine, GIGATOP 2-pole generator, and associated auxiliaries and controls for TerraPower’s under-development
“We are proud to partner with Arabelle Solutions after a comprehensive selection process alongside TerraPower,” said Suchit Chopra, Bechtel Project Director. “With a global reputation and deep experience in turbine generator technology, Arabelle Solutions adds value to the Natrium project. Backed by Bechtel’s more than 70 years of nuclear expertise and track record delivering complex energy infrastructure, this award keeps us firmly on track to deliver an advanced nuclear facility that will provide safe, reliable power for decades to come.”
Arabelle’s 500-MWe steam turbine and generator will form the primary components in the Natrium plant energy island and, once operational, it will generate enough electricity to power approximately 400,000 homes. The company delivers turbine hall equipment applicable to reactors with power ratings between 50 – 1,900 MW.
“The steam turbine has been designed for the energy island at the Kemmerer site to meet the specific requirements of TerraPower’s molten salt-based energy storage system, enabling the plant to provide a flexible power output up to 500 MWe,” said Cedric Couffignal, Executive Vice-President, New Build at Arabelle Solutions. “Our design applies a philosophy of standardization, modularization, and a platform-based approach to maximize efficiency and electricity production.”
