NMES and EthosEnergy signed an agreement to deliver on-site rotor lifetime extension services for GE Frame 7 turbines, reducing cost and downtime.

NOMAC Maintenance Energy Services (NMES), the field service affiliate of Saudi-based ACWA Power, and EthosEnergy signed an agreement to provide end-to-end on-site rotating equipment services via an on-site rotor lifetime assessment and extension (RLE) solution for GE Frame 7E, EA, and FA gas turbines within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Key Takeaways

  • The partnership focuses on delivering rotor lifetime extension services for GE Frame 7E, EA, and FA turbines in Saudi Arabia.
  • Services include on-site assessment, critical non-destructive testing, machining, parts replacement, and inspection during major or hot gas path outages.
  • This integrated solution aims to reduce outage duration, lower costs, and minimize operational risks for power plant operators.

“We’re thrilled to partner with EthosEnergy, enabling us to deliver not only the expertise and machinery to perform these works on-site, but also the required parts, providing a comprehensive solution in the shortest timeframe, and at the most competitive price,” said Harald Schmit, Executive VP of Field Services at ACWA Power and Head of NMES.

NMES and EthosEnergy will offer a fully integrated RLE solution that includes:

  • Supply of seed rotors (new or certified refurbished)
  • Full on-site rotor lifetime assessment and extension
  • On-site critical non-destructive testing and machining services
  • Parts replacement and recertification
  • Open/close/inspect the unit as part of a hot gas path or a major inspection

“This partnership is a testament to what’s possible when two industry leaders come together with a shared commitment to innovation and performance,” said Patricia Gonzalez, Executive VP of Optimization Solutions at EthosEnergy. “By combining our technical depth in rotor engineering and manufacturing with NMES’s world-class field execution, we are enabling operators to significantly reduce outage duration, cost, and risk. It’s a positive step for the region’s energy infrastructure, and we are proud to be a part of it.”

Earlier this month, EthosEnergy signed a multi-year operations and maintenance (O&M) agreement with the Rhode Island State Energy Center (RISEC), a two-by-one combined-cycle gas turbine power plant in Providence, Rhode Island, and owned by Shell Energy North America.

Per the agreement, EthosEnergy will deliver comprehensive O&M services, including:

  • health, safety, environmental, and NERC compliance
  • 24/7 remote monitoring
  • IT/OT services
  • human resources
  • procurement support

The facility, commissioned in 2002 with a nominal output of 596 MW, is powered by two SGT6-5000F gas turbines and one GE D11 steam turbine. With this new agreement, EthosEnergy further expands its presence in the Northeast and continues to deliver value through tailored, technology-neutral solutions.

In late summer 2024, Turbomachinery International toured one of EthosEnergy’s Texas-based facilities, which employs hundreds of local residents, cementing Houston’s place among top energy-centric locations worldwide.

The tour began at EthosEnergy’s Performance Center. It was built in 2023 and supports the company’s O&M segment. Performance Center Director Daniel Tegtmeier outlined the facility’s 24/7 real-time remote start/stop capabilities and access to asset monitoring, diagnostics, and remote engineering support. In addition, operators can leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to detect early warnings of reliability and performance issues.
