Mitsubishi Power will supply parts and services for Ilihan’s M501G fleet to support reliability on the Luzon grid.

Mitsubishi Power has signed a Long-Term Parts and Services Agreement (LTPSA) with LNGPH, through South Premiere Power Corporation (SPPC), covering M501G gas turbines at the 1,200-MW Ilihan Combined Cycle Power Plant in Batangas, Philippines. The agreement extends Mitsubishi Power’s lifecycle role at one of Luzon’s key gas-fired generation assets, more than two decades after the OEM supplied the plant’s M501G gas turbines in 2002.

The LTPSA was executed between MHI Power (Philippines) Plant Services Corporation, Mitsubishi Power’s Philippine after-sales arm, and LNGPH/SPPC. Mitsubishi Power said the scope will support “continued operational reliability and optimal performance” at Ilihan amid changing market conditions.

What does the LTPSA cover for the M501G fleet?

Under the agreement, MHI-PSC will provide critical parts and services for Ilihan’s M501G gas turbines, including hot parts and spare parts supply, repair works, and technical advisory services. For turbomachinery operators, that scope is significant: hot-section components, inspection planning, and repair execution are among the primary levers for maintaining availability, heat-rate performance, and outage predictability in heavy-duty gas turbines.

The agreement also expands the existing relationship into parts and inspection management. For combined-cycle plant owners, long-term OEM service frameworks can reduce uncertainty around parts availability and maintenance scheduling, particularly for mature turbine fleets that remain central to grid reliability.

Why Ilihan remains strategically important to the Luzon grid

Ilihan is part of LNGPH’s integrated liquefied natural gas import and regasification terminal and gas-to-power complex in Batangas, which has a total installed capacity of 2.5 GW. LNGPH operates through SPPC and Excellent Energy Resources Inc. and represents joint investments involving Chromite Gas Holdings Inc.—a joint venture between Meralco PowerGen Corp. and Aboitiz-owned Therma Natgas Power Inc.—along with San Miguel Global Power Holdings Corp.

Mitsubishi Power framed the agreement as a contribution to energy resilience and economic growth in the Philippines. Akihiro Ondo, Managing Director and CEO of Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific, said the LTPSA builds on “more than two decades of proven operation” of the M501G units and supports “stable, flexible power generation” for the country’s evolving needs.

Yari A. Miralao, President and CEO of LNGPH, said the SPPC facility has been a reliable source of power for the Luzon grid for more than 20 years. He also noted that the plant has a power supply agreement extending through 2040, reinforcing its expected long-term role in the Philippine power system.

Implications for turbomachinery and rotating equipment teams

For gas turbine maintenance, reliability, and asset-management professionals, the Ilihan agreement underscores several practical trends. First, aging but critical combined-cycle assets are being retained and supported through structured long-term service programs rather than treated as short-term bridge capacity. Second, OEM-backed parts and repair strategies remain central to managing reliability risk in high-value rotating equipment. Third, inspection management and technical advisory services are becoming as important as parts supply, particularly as grid operators demand flexible output from thermal assets.

Mitsubishi Power’s local footprint is also relevant. The company said it is the only manufacturing company in the Philippine energy sector with an engineering and service hub in the country, supported by more than 1,600 engineers. It also said it supplies more than a quarter of the Philippines’ total installed capacity through projects including Ilihan, San Lorenzo, Makban, Pagbilao, and San Buenaventura.

The Philippines is also home to one of Mitsubishi Power’s four TOMONI Hubs, which provide remote monitoring and analytics, predictive diagnostics, and operational support for power plants across Asia Pacific. For rotating equipment teams, that digital layer points to a broader maintenance model: combining OEM parts logistics, field repair capability, advisory support, and condition-based analytics to extend the reliable service life of major gas turbine assets.
