German industrial group Siemens recently signed a $400 million contract to expand the M-Station power plant in Dubai. The deal with the emirate's state-owned utility DEWA is expected to increase the gas-powered plant's electricity-generating capacity to 2,760 MW from 2,060MW.
The expansion project includes adding two gas turbine generators, two heat recovery steam turbine generators, and one back pressure steam turbine and is likely to be completed by the end of April 2018, a statement said. The M-Station, built at a cost of AED10 billion ($2.72 billion), is said to be the largest power production and desalination plant in the UAE.
The deal is part of DEWA's efforts to build sustainable systems for the production, transmission and distribution of electricity and water to international standards. The new combined-cycle power plant is expected to add a further 700MW to the installed generating capacity of M-Station at Jebel Ali.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and Dietmar Siersdorfer, CEO of Siemens in the Middle East signed the agreement at the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2015) in Dubai.
