Discover how composite wear parts enhance centrifugal pump reliability, extend MTBF, and boost efficiency compared to traditional metallic components.

Case Study - Greene Tweed's Arlon® 4020 PEEK labyrinth seals significantly improved the efficiency of MAN Energy Solutions' centrifugal compressors, leading to substantial energy savings. The seals, featuring a flexible tooth design and made from durable, corrosion-resistant materials, reduced inter-stage leakage and optimized thermal expansion. Laboratory and field tests revealed 1-1.5% efficiency gains, aligning with theoretical predictions. After nearly nine years of operation, the seals demonstrated excellent long-term performance with minimal wear or degradation. These efficiency improvements resulted in lifecycle cost savings of approximately $300,000 for a typical compressor, offering both financial and environmental benefits.

Greene Tweed partnered with MAN to develop a non-metallic labyrinth seal for their compressors to reduce leakage and increase efficiency.

Greg Gedney, Industry Expansion Manager at Greene Tweed, shares his thoughts on key challenges faced in the pump & turbomachinery industry.

Greene Tweed partnered with MAN Energy Solutions to develop an Arlon®4020 Labyrinth Seal Solution that provides substantial efficiency gain and superior performance when compared to traditional metallic seals. The engineered tooth profile of the Arlon®4020 Labyrinth Seal enables MAN Energy Solutions to reduce leakage and increase efficiency in their compressors.
