How MAN Energy Solutions Improved Their Centrifugal Compressor’s Efficiency, Yielding Six-Figure Savings Greene Tweed’s Arlon® 4020 PEEK Labyrinth Seal Solution and its tooth design reduce inter-stage leakage

Author(s):

Case Study - Greene Tweed's Arlon® 4020 PEEK labyrinth seals significantly improved the efficiency of MAN Energy Solutions' centrifugal compressors, leading to substantial energy savings. The seals, featuring a flexible tooth design and made from durable, corrosion-resistant materials, reduced inter-stage leakage and optimized thermal expansion. Laboratory and field tests revealed 1-1.5% efficiency gains, aligning with theoretical predictions. After nearly nine years of operation, the seals demonstrated excellent long-term performance with minimal wear or degradation. These efficiency improvements resulted in lifecycle cost savings of approximately $300,000 for a typical compressor, offering both financial and environmental benefits.
