Facilities in North Carolina and Florida will increase gas turbine, blade, and vane manufacturing, helping to generate jobs and build generation capacity as demand rises.

Siemens Energy has finalized $1 billion investment plans to increase U.S.-based manufacturing and significantly expand its workforce—an initiative presented at its Capital Market Day in Charlotte, NC, last November. The overall program includes brownfield expansions, upscaling transformer production and servicing, and bolstering the manufacturing of large-scale gas turbines in the United States. Also, Siemens Energy will construct a new factory in Mississippi to manufacture grid components.

“Siemens Energy has been making things in the United States for more than a century, and we are experiencing a once-in-a-generation growth opportunity due to the resurgence of U.S. manufacturing and the growth of AI,” said Christian Bruch, CEO and President of Siemens Energy. “The current policy environment has contributed to this momentum. The Trump Administration has made energy security, a reliable and resilient grid, and growing U.S. manufacturing jobs a priority. This has supercharged the energy demand which is supporting new investments across the energy sector.”

The investment will generate over 1,500 skilled positions in manufacturing, operations, and engineering assisted by Siemens Energy’s high-quality education, training, and development opportunities.

“This investment is a critical part of our power grid supply chain and underscores President Trump’s efforts in expanding supply chain access and bringing major manufacturing back to America,” said Doug Burgum, United States Secretary of Interior and White House National Energy Dominance Chair. “We appreciate partners like Siemens Energy, who proactively partner with the Trump Administration for the benefit of the American people, prioritizing critical components to make the United States energy dominant.”

In North Carolina, Siemens Energy will allocate its investment across three facilities in Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh. The Charlotte location will increase manufacturing and servicing capabilities for large-scale power transformers and resume gas turbine manufacturing, while Winston-Salem produces gas turbine components. The company will expand grid technology project execution, engineering, sales, and R&D in Raleigh. This statewide investment will add 500 jobs across these communities.

In Mississippi’s Greater Richland area, Siemens Energy will build a new high-voltage switchgear facility to manufacture grid components. The facility expects to hire up to 300 new employees and will include a Training Center to advance workforce development.

The Tampa facility will grow to manufacture more blades and vanes, both critical aspects of the gas turbine supply chain. Research and development capabilities will be upgraded at the company’s Orlando Innovation Center, including a new AI digital grid technologies laboratory with NVIDIA. The headquarters will be modernized and relocated to Orlando’s Lake Nona community to improve employee experience and accelerate growth in the region.

In Fort Payne, AL, the production of copper and insulation electrical components for generators will be expanded, creating 120 new jobs. Lastly, facilities in New York (Painted Post) and Texas (Houston) will be upgraded. These facilities manufacture and service compression equipment used to transport gas and liquids through pipelines.

As the United States undergoes an unprecedented surge in electricity demand, Siemens Energy’s $1 billion investment will create modern, resilient grid infrastructure and significantly increase power generation capacity to address rapidly expanding data centers, AI buildout, and next-generation industrial electrification.

Applied Digital

In early January 2025, Siemens Energy was selected by Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) to supply steam turbine generator sets for the Applied Digital project, in which B&W will deliver 1 GW of power for an AI Factory. The companies signed a limited notice to proceed to secure the turbine gensets, allowing B&W to deliver power by year-end 2028. The complete contract release is expected in Q1 2026.
