GE Energy has announced a variety of deals to provide gas turbines for power plants across China as the country embarks on a long-term plan to improve air quality.

In Beijing, the Atlanta-based company will supply three 9FB gas turbines to the Datang Gaojing power plant, which will have 1,378 MW of generating capacity when construction is completed.

The gas turbines will meet growing electricity demand in the capital while helping the government move away from coal-fired plants as part of its plan to reduce emissions, according to a GE Energy news release.

As part of the deal, GE is also providing equipment and services to Harbin Electric Corp., an established GE business partner, which is building the plant. It will be owned and operated by China Datang Corp.

GE is also supplying two 6FA gas turbine-generators Harbin Electric in the southern part of the country, where the Chinese firm is building another plant owned by a Datang affiliate.

That's just one of many deals announced in Zheijiang province. GE will also provide two turbines for a project in the city of Quzhou and one for a plant near Huzhou, both of which will help power economic development zones. Zhejiang province is well-known as a hub for private enterprise and manufacturing in China.
