Doosan Enerbility Wins Contract to Deliver Two Gas Turbines for U.S. Tech Company
Key Takeaways
- Doosan Enerbility's first overseas gas turbine export signifies South Korea's capability to produce and export homegrown turbines, reducing reliance on imports.
- The contract addresses AI data centers' electricity demand, highlighting gas turbines' benefits: quick construction, stable supply, rapid start-up, and high efficiency.
This win marks the company’s first overseas export deal for gas turbines, with Doosan Turbomachinery Services performing maintenance at its Houston-based location.
Last week, Doosan Enerbility signed an agreement with a large-scale U.S. technology company to supply
“This contract signifies a turning point for South Korea, as this shows that our country is no longer dependent on imported gas turbines, but is now a country that has the capability to export its own homegrown gas turbines,” said Seungwoo Sohn, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group. “We plan to show our appreciation to our customers by delivering on our commitments regarding product quality and deadline, while also working to expand our reach in the global market.”
In 2019, Doosan Enerbility partnered with the domestic, academia, and research sectors to successfully manufacture large-scale gas turbines for power generation. Next, the company performed over 15,000 hours of demonstration tests at the Gimpo Combined Heat & Power Plant, verifying the performance of domestically manufactured turbines. Doosan then secured multiple supplier agreements for eight total gas turbines.
The recent contract win was driven by a surge in AI data centers’ electricity demand: These facilities are struggling to obtain enough electricity on existing power grids, so developers have turned to gas turbines as a new energy source. Turbines offer quicker construction lead times, stable and reliable electricity supply, rapid start-up, and high operating efficiency. Doosan Enerbility aims to satisfy data center power demand with its own portfolio of locally developed gas turbine models.

In late September 2025, under a signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GS Banwol Combined Heat and Power Co. (GS Banwol), Doosan Enerbility agreed to execute the
Doosan Enerbility will deliver the primary components, including locally manufactured gas turbines and additional equipment required for modernization, while also cooperating on the engineering, procurement, and construction process. The party in charge of plant operation, GS Banwol, will provide a stable supply of heat and electricity for the national grid and industrial complex.
The facility will be converted into a high-efficiency, eco-friendly power plant equipped with Doosan Enerbility’s H-class gas turbines—featuring a turbine inlet temperature in the range of 1500 ℃ or higher—accommodating a future fuel conversion to hydrogen. This aligns with the South Korean government’s policy to achieve an eco-friendly energy transition and carbon neutrality.
Component Manufacturing
In early May 2025,
- Doosan Enerbility will design and conduct quality assessments for each gas turbine blade
- HD Hyundai Marine Engine will develop and manufacture precision-casting materials
