Mitsubishi Power Fulfills H-25 Gas Turbine Order for Plant Conversion in Taiwan

Chang Chun Petrochemical recently ordered one H-25 gas turbine from Mitsubishi Power, planning to convert the cogeneration facility at its Miaoli Factory from heavy oil and coal-fired boilers to a high-efficiency, natural gas-fired system. The upcoming gas-fired cogeneration facility, located in Miaoli City, Taiwan, will have an approximately 30-MW output with operation scheduled by year-end 2028. The H-25 unit will generate electric power and steam for the factory’s manufacturing processes.

Per the order, Mitsubishi Power will supply the primary gas turbine and auxiliary equipment, in addition to dispatching an engineering team to execute equipment installation and commissioning. In 2023, the company obtained an H-25 gas turbine order for the Miaoli Factory, with operation scheduled in summer 2026. This new order marks the second H-25 unit to be installed at the same factory.

This installation aligns with Taiwan’s energy policy objectives, as the H-25 gas turbine improves cogeneration plant efficiency and reduces CO2 emissions compared to traditional boiler-based systems that directly burn fuel. The H-25 gas turbine also demonstrated significant reliability across extensive long-term operational experience. Since the first unit order in 1987, Mitsubishi Power has supplied and operated over 200 H-25 turbines globally.

Since 1984, Mitsubishi Power delivered key equipment for power generation and cogeneration facilities at Chang Chun Group factories, including nine steam turbines and five boilers. The company still provides after-sales services and numerous solution offerings for Chang Chun. This recent order reflects the track record and long-standing relationship between Mitsubishi Power and Chang Chun Petrochemical.

Tung Hsiao Power Plant

In September 2025, the Taiwan Power Co. granted Mitsubishi Power and CTCI Corp. a $5.2 billion contract to execute a full turnkey project at its 2,800-MW Tung Hsiao power plant in Miaoli County, Taiwan. Mitsubishi Power will deliver five units with M501 JAC gas turbines, steam turbines, and auxiliary equipment, while CTCI performs engineering, procurement, and construction and balance-of-plant work for the gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) project.

The five new turbine units will begin operation sequentially from 2030 to 2031, with generators supplied by Mitsubishi Generator Co. Several GTCC power plants, updated in the renewal’s first phase and located near the new facility, are equipped with three M501 JAC units operating since 2018. These units arrived following a joint contract awarded to Mitsubishi Power and CTCI in 2013.

Taiwan Power’s Tung Hsiao plant is located approximately 130 km southwest of Taipei and based on Taiwan’s long-term power supply and development plan, it will replace existing power plants once renewal work is completed. The renovation aims to increase power generation capacity and reduce environmental impact, while meeting the region’s rising industrial and residential electricity demand. In addition, the project also helps Taiwan in meeting its net-zero emissions goal.

Power in the Mekong Delta

In cooperation with Doosan Enerbility, Mitsubishi Power agreed to deliver two M701 JAC gas turbines and auxiliary equipment for Petrovietnam’s 1,155-MW O Mon 4 GTCC plant in Can Tho, South Vietnam. The agreement was signed in August 2025 and, with the groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of construction, the plant is slated for completion in 2028.
