The new gas turbines, steam turbines, and auxiliary equipment will increase power generation capacity to meet rising industrial and residential electricity demand.

The Taiwan Power Co. granted Mitsubishi Power and CTCI Corp. a $5.2 billion contract to execute a full turnkey project at its 2,800-MW Tung Hsiao power plant in Miaoli County, Taiwan. Mitsubishi Power will deliver five units with M501 JAC gas turbines, steam turbines, and auxiliary equipment, while CTCI performs engineering, procurement, and construction and balance-of-plant work for the gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) project.

The five new turbine units will begin operation sequentially from 2030 to 2031, with generators supplied by Mitsubishi Generator Co. Several GTCC power plants, updated in the renewal’s first phase and located near the new facility, are equipped with three M501 JAC units operating since 2018. These units arrived following a joint contract awarded to Mitsubishi Power and CTCI in 2013.

Taiwan Power’s Tung Hsiao plant is located approximately 130 km southwest of Taipei and based on Taiwan’s long-term power supply and development plan, it will replace existing power plants once renewal work is completed. The renovation aims to increase power generation capacity and reduce environmental impact, while meeting the region’s rising industrial and residential electricity demand. In addition, the project also helps Taiwan in meeting its net-zero emissions goal.

Power in the Mekong Delta

This week, in cooperation with Doosan Enerbility, Mitsubishi Power agreed to deliver two M701 JAC gas turbines and auxiliary equipment for Petrovietnam’s 1,155-MW O Mon 4 GTCC plant in Can Tho, South Vietnam. The agreement was signed in August 2025 and, with the groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of construction, the plant is slated for completion in 2028.

These large-frame JAC gas turbines, the first to be deployed in Vietnam, feature more than 64% combined-cycle efficiency and reliability across 3 million operating hours. The engineering, procurement, and construction contract was awarded to both Doosan Enerbility and the Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2.

The O Mon 4 power plant, once operational, will generate stable electricity for the Mekong Delta region under the Block B – O Mon gas-to-power project: a national strategy to boost Vietnam’s energy security and advance the energy transition. It will increase Petrovietnam’s total installed capacity to over 9,300 MW, which is equivalent to approximately 10% of Vietnam’s domestic power system.

Alba Power Project

In February 2025, Mitsubishi Power successfully delivered its hydrogen-ready M701 JAC gas turbine to Aluminum Bahrain’s (Alba) Power Station 5 Block 4 combined-cycle power plant, completing the project one month ahead of schedule. The company also signed a long-term service agreement to ensure the gas turbine’s availability, reliability, and performance, allowing Alba to leverage uninterrupted power generation for aluminum production and domestic industrial growth.

The high-efficiency, 680.9-MW power plant, developed in partnership between Mitsubishi Power and SEPCOIII, is also equipped with a steam turbine. This power will expand Alba's captive power generation capacity and represents the first deployment of advanced JAC technology in a Middle Eastern aluminum smelter, contributing to Alba's decarbonization goals and ensuring energy security for its operations.
