RWE, Entergy Plan Market Distribution of Offshore Wind in Texas, Louisiana

Energy firms RWE and Entergy ink MOU to explore clean energy distribution from offshore wind to Texas and Louisiana.

Offshore wind specialist RWE has joined forces with Entergy to examine the potential of the Gulf of Mexico's offshore wind market. This partnership involved signing a memorandum of understanding, in which RWE and Entergy commit to evaluating a market entry strategy. These consist of gauging the demand for carbon-free energy among Entergy Louisiana, Entergy New Orleans, and Entergy Texas customers, assessing resource economics, conducting transmission analysis, analyzing economic impacts, and workforce development.

The Gulf of Mexico is the next region in line for the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management's offshore wind lease auctions, with three proposed lease areas under the Pre-Sale Notice. The area has gained traction following Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards' Climate Action Plan, which sets a target of 5 GW of offshore wind energy by 2035. The results of the study are anticipated to be shared with the broader industry later this year.
