San Matias Pipeline selected the NovaLT16 gas turbine platform for its performance, efficiency, delivery advantages, and suitability for midstream gas compression applications.

Baker Hughes recently signed a strategic order with San Matias Pipeline S.A. to deliver three gas compression units for a key natural gas pipeline project in Argentina. The contract includes three NovaLT16 gas turbines equipped with three centrifugal compressors, in addition to commissioning services, spare parts, specialized tools, and remote monitoring and diagnostic capabilities.

“This award underscores our continued focus on supporting critical gas infrastructure that enables secure, reliable, and lower emission energy systems as we expand our presence in strategic growth markets across Latin America,” said Maria Claudia Borras, Baker Hughes Chief Growth & Experience Officer and Interim EVP of Industrial & Energy Technology. “Natural gas plays a strategic role in strengthening energy security and enabling scalable pathways to global LNG markets, particularly in regions with significant resource potential such as Argentina.”

These compression units will be installed at a gas compressor station near Allen, Río Negro, Argentina, to support natural gas transportation from the Vaca Muerta formation to the Gulf of San Matias through a dedicated pipeline, providing feed gas to Southern Energy’s two floating LNG vessels.

This project marks the first deployment of Baker Hughes’ NovaLT gas turbine technology in South America, demonstrating a growing demand for high-efficiency, lower emissions rotating machinery with competitive delivery timelines. San Matias Pipeline selected the NovaLT16 gas turbine platform for its performance, efficiency, delivery advantages, and suitability for midstream gas compression applications supporting LNG value chains.

Offshore LNG Terminal

In March 2026, ST LNG contracted Baker Hughes to supply critical gas compression, power generation equipment, and project development support for a planned 8.4 MTPA LNG export terminal offshore Matagorda, TX. Per the agreement, Baker Hughes will deliver two LM6000PF gas turbine-driven centrifugal compressor trains and three NovaLT16 gas turbine generator packages, securing the project’s Phase I production capacity of 2.1 MTPA.

ST LNG’s proposed offshore LNG export terminal was made public in June 2025, as the company pursued a deepwater port license from the U.S. Maritime Administration. The development will feature up to four liquefaction units installed on fixed platforms, each with a nominal capacity of 2.1 MTPA and a total planned capacity of 8.4 MTPA. First phase production is targeted for mid-2030. Baker Hughes’ nomination for this facility, to be located in U.S. federal waters, represents a key milestone as the project advances toward final investment decision. The company will recognize orders associated with this contract as the project progresses.

Petrobras Partnership

Also in March, Baker Hughes was awarded a 60-month service contract from Petrobras to support critical turbomachinery equipment across Brazil’s offshore operations and a major refinery, reinforcing its focus on lifecycle services for rotating equipment. The agreement, signed in February in Rio de Janeiro following an open tender process, covers maintenance, repairs, and engineering advisory services for aeroderivative gas turbines that are essential to Petrobras’ production continuity.

Under the contract, Baker Hughes will support up to 64 gas turbines installed across multiple sites, including approximately 19 floating production, storage, and offloading vessels in Brazil’s offshore sector, as well as the Replan refinery in Paulínia, São Paulo. The assets include LM2500 and LM6000 gas turbines supplied by the company.
