President Trump and the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia’s visit prompted the collaboration with GE Vernova to potentially supply advanced heavy-duty gas turbines built in Greenville, SC.

During a meeting between President Donald Trump and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, GE Vernova announced an up to $14.2 billion investment in Saudi Arabia’s energy transition. With its energy equipment technology and associated services, GE Vernova will support numerous power generation and grid stability projects. This includes partnerships with Saudi Electricity Co., ACWA Power, Aramco, and Principal Buyer.

“As the world's energy equipment manufacturer, GE Vernova is proud to deploy technology to help deepen the relationship between the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, advance energy security, and strengthen the economic prosperity and competitiveness of both nations,” said Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova.

The company signed multiple four-year contracts and memorandums of understanding, with up to $2 billion in reservations, to accelerate Saudi Vision 2030 and net-zero by 2060.

GE Vernova’s partnerships include:

  • ACWA Power and GE Vernova will jointly evaluate and identify opportunities to install high-efficiency gas turbines and electrification equipment for upcoming Saudi projects.
  • Aramco will partner with GE Vernova to supply maintenance, repairs, spare parts, and additional services for numerous domestic power plants, supporting safe and reliable operations.
  • Principal Buyer and GE Vernova signed several MoUs to commercialize carbon-capture technologies and provide power generation equipment and services for planned projects. In addition, the partners will deliver training and investments in Saudi Arabia’s power manufacturing, repairs, and R&D sectors.
  • Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) will obtain efficient, flexible heavy-duty gas turbines from GE Vernova’s manufacturing facility in Greenville, SC, as well as synchronous condensers and balance-of-plant systems to support grid stability. The grid-oriented equipment will deliver voltage regulation, reactive power, and system strength as Saudi Arabia integrates more renewable energy into its national grid. Lastly, GE Vernova will also supply capital parts and maintenance/repair services.

“We are thankful for the leadership of both governments for putting energy manufacturing and technology front and center, setting a precedent for equipment to unlock more solutions globally," Strazik said. “We are committed to continuing our work to grow capacity and jobs in the United States and beyond to meet these needs."

GE Vernova already has a foothold in Saudi Arabia: the GE Manufacturing and Technology Center Campus (GEMTEC). In Dammam, GEMTEC features a manufacturing facility for heavy-duty gas turbines and components, an R&D development cell, and a service and repair center. The campus employs up to 850 people.

Outage in Saudi Arabia

In late March 2025, GE Vernova and SEC completed gas turbine outage and maintenance operations at the Riyadh 8 power plant, a several-block facility with one block using four 7F gas turbines to generate approximately 500 MW. The outage was led by GE Vernova’s Gas Power One Field Services Team and, in partnership with SEC, supported the reliability and efficiency of the plant’s power generation assets.

Saudi engineers and specialists conducted detailed planning and execution, established strict safety protocols, and delivered the project on schedule with GE Vernova’s Live Outage digital tool, which improves field execution through standardized procedures, tasks, and best practices. The Live Outage service team optimized power plant performance and reliability by executing expert maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
