Greek industrial firm MYTILINEOS S.A. has ordered a GE 9HA.02 gas turbine for the Agios Nikolaos GTCC plant in the Voiotia region. This will be the first HA gas turbine installed in Greece, according to the report.

Construction on the 826-MW Agios Nikolaos plant is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter and go commercially operational two years later. GE’s deal includes a steam turbine and generator for the combined cycle plant, as well as a 15-year service agreement.

“We are very proud that the Agios Nikolaos Power Plant will be one of the most efficient power plants in Europe and the entire world using GE’s latest and most efficient gas turbine technology, the 9HA.02,” Evangelos Mytilineos, president and CEO of MYTILINEOS, said in a statement.

When operational, the Agios Nikolaos plant is expected to have a thermal efficiency rate in excess of 63 percent and reduce emissions 25 percents compared to a similarly-sized lignite-fired plant.

“GE is honored to work with MYTILINEOS to bring the first HA gas turbine to Greece and to mark an incredible milestone of 100 HA gas turbine orders, all while helping modernize the Agios Nikolaos CCPP Power Plant with the HA’s record-setting performance and efficiency,” said Scott Strazik, President and CEO of GE’s Gas Power business. “By investing in state-of-the-art technology, the Agios Nikolaos plant will supply flexible and reliable electricity to Greece, helping the country to meet energy emissions and security goals.”

GE’s HA units in commercial operations worldwide have supplied more than 18 GW of power to grids through more than 415,000 operating hours, according to the company.
