In addition to delivering centrifugal pumps, vaporizers, control systems, insulated pipelines, and more, Nikkiso will provide engineering services and auxiliary equipment.
NPG, a joint venture to be formed by Shell and another subsidiary, contracted Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group to deliver LNG regasification and cryogenic equipment for the New Providence Gas Project in Nassau, Bahamas. The packaged regasification system leverages a modular, standardized design with a capacity of 55 million standard cubic feet per day, minimizing integration time and cost.
“Nikkiso's LNG-to-power solution is preferred by our customers because we can engineer, manufacture, install, and service critical equipment which helps provide power via natural gas in some of the world's most remote locations,” said Adrian Ridge, President and CEO of Nikkiso CE&IG Group. “We've proven time and again that we are a reliable partner, supporting customers with quick delivery and installation for projects of any scale. This project is a good insight into how important cryogenic equipment is for companies like NPG looking to expand lower-carbon power generation.”

In addition to numerous equipment deliveries, Nikkiso will provide engineering services for the project. The New Providence Gas Project will build an LNG receiving terminal to support additional power generation at the Clifton Pier. It will use LNG to power new and retrofitted gas turbines, delivering lower-carbon infrastructure than the former diesel-powered machinery.
In March 2023, Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group expanded their sales, service, and engineering capabilities for the African market by constructing a new facility. From it, the company will be providing support for all of their product offerings. The group is part of Nikkiso Company, located in Japan, which operates under Cryogenic Industries, based in the United States.
Located in Waterfall, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, the facility was at first constructed to expand the operating range of the business in the continent of Africa and support South Africa’s engineering and economic hubs in the region. By recruiting local engineers and field service support from local markets, Nikkiso will bring specific knowledge from the local and regional markets. This enables the fabrication of more customized solutions from the site.
From this facility, the additional engineering support is expected to generate process and design optimization solutions for operators in the region. The facility will also create LNG equipment to be used in the large natural gas expansion off the coast of Mozambique, and in the possible formation of virtual pipelines for LNG fuel to deter current electric grid reliability concerns.
In early April 2025, Shell Offshore started oil production at the Dover subsea development tieback, located 170 miles offshore of New Orleans, LA, in the Mississippi Canyon in approximately 7,500 feet of water. Expected to produce up to 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, Dover is the second tieback to the Appomattox production hub in the Gulf of America; the first was Rydberg, which came online in February 2024.
The subsea development’s two production wells will be connected to Appomattox via a 17.5-mile flowline and riser. Shell’s current Dover estimates claim approximately 44.5 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent, providing stable and secure energy resources for both domestic and international use. Shell Offshore discovered the Dover Reserve in 2018.
