Uzbekistan power plant secures final funding

ACWA Power, a Saudi Arabia-based energy company, secure funding for the development of a 1.5 GW gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Sirdarya, Uzbekistan.

ACWA Power, a Saudi Arabia-based energy company, secure funding for the development of a 1.5 GW gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Sirdarya, Uzbekistan. The company an additional $50 million loan from the OPEC Fund for International Development after it had previously secured $750 million from several international financial institutions. Construction of the plant is expected to cost around $1 billion.

The plant will be located near the Uzbekistan border with Tajikistan. It will replace an ageing thermal power facility.

Uzbekistan experiences regular power outages from its ageing facilities. When complete, the plant is anticipated to meet 15% of the country’s power demand and make up 8% of all installed power capacity. The project will be the largest private energy project in Uzbekistan.
