Key Takeaways

  • Projects totaling >100 ACCX300-L units were booked rapidly post-launch, but firmness, customer identities, vessel types, and contract values were not disclosed.
  • A cartridge-swappable rotating assembly targets port-call major service, aiming to reduce lifecycle scheduled service events from four to three over 25 years.

The two-frame platform for two-stroke marine engines is built around a cartridge design that lets operators exchange the rotating assembly during port calls.

Accelleron says it has secured projects involving more than 100 ACCX300-L turbochargers in the four months since the platform launched commercially in April.

The Swiss manufacturer announced the figure Sept. 24.1 The low-speed units are designed for two-stroke marine engines, and first deliveries are scheduled for March 2027.1

"The speed and breadth of adoption stand out. Customers are looking beyond initial performance to how equipment will be maintained and kept efficient over decades of operation," said Christoph Rofka, president of Accelleron's medium and low speed division.

Key Facts

  • Product: ACCX300-L low-speed turbocharger
  • Models: ACCX365-L and ACCX370-L
  • Maker: Accelleron, Baden, Switzerland
  • Application: two-stroke marine engines
  • First announced: June 2023
  • Commercial launch: April 2026
  • Bookings: 100+ units in four months
  • First deliveries: March 2027
  • Service: rotating assembly swapped in port
  • Scheduled services: three over 25 years, from four
  • Not disclosed: customers, value, efficiency data

According to the company, the orders came from shipowners, engine builders and shipyards. Chinese and Korean engine builders and shipyards have chosen the unit for newbuild projects. Accelleron also said major two-stroke engine designers have added the turbocharger to their engine configurators. It did not name those designers or disclose order values.1

How did the ACCX300-L get from announcement to market?

Accelleron first unveiled the series in June 2023 with two models, the ACCX365-L and ACCX370-L. The company said at the time that the design would make twin-turbocharger arrangements feasible on larger engines. It expected to take orders from the second half of 2024 and make first deliveries by the end of 2025. The commercial launch came in April 2026 after qualification testing, and first deliveries are now set for March 2027.1-3

Accelleron has not publicly explained the change in timing.

"The ACCX300-L series re-imagines turbocharging for an era of multiple fuels and increasing cost pressures in shipping," Rofka said when the series was first announced.³ At the April launch, he described it as "more than just an evolutionary improvement," calling it "a re-imagined turbocharging concept built around the operational realities shipowners and operators face today."2

What design changes does the ACCX300-L bring to low-speed turbocharging?

The platform covers its range with two frame sizes, where previous designs needed five.1 Its main feature is a cartridge concept. The complete rotating assembly can be exchanged during a single port call, so major turbocharger work no longer has to wait for drydock availability.1,3 Accelleron says the approach cuts scheduled service events from four to three over a vessel's 25-year life.2

The platform is offered in single and twin arrangements. On engines with two turbochargers, an automatic cut-in and cut-out function switches one unit in or out as engine load changes.

Accelleron says this keeps efficiency up during slow steaming. Every unit also ships with the company's Turbo Insights monitoring as standard.1

How do the ACCX300-L orders fit Accelleron's broader business?

Marine remains Accelleron's core market. In first-half 2026 results reported in August, its medium and low speed division generated $529 million in revenue, up 15.2% year over year, with an operational EBITA margin of 25.5%.4

The company attributed that growth to demand for merchant marine newbuilds, service work on fuel-efficiency retrofits and a growing fleet under full-service agreements.4 Total first-half revenue reached $737 million. Accelleron raised its full-year organic growth outlook to 14% to 17%, up from 9% to 14%, citing strong demand from data centers.4

Service is also where the new platform is positioned. Accelleron links the ACCX300-L's built-in monitoring to condition-based maintenance under its Turbo MarineCare service agreements.1

The company competes with established suppliers in low-speed turbochargers. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' marine machinery business, which makes the MET turbocharger line, licensed China's Jiangsu Masada in 2024 to manufacture and sell the units, with production starting in 2025.5

What remains unclear about the ACCX300-L bookings?

Accelleron described the milestone as projects involving more than 100 units. It did not separate firm orders from other commitments, and it did not say how the bookings divide between the two frame sizes.

It also did not name customers, vessel types or contract values. None of the company's three announcements on the series has published efficiency, pressure-ratio or engine power-range data.

Accelleron also has not said which fuels the platform has been qualified for, even though it has framed the series around multiple fuels. The first real test of the port-call cartridge exchange will come once units enter service after deliveries begin in March 2027.
