Three SGT-400 gas turbines to deliver 27MW power to Kansas

Siemens has been awarded a contract by Kansas Municipal Energy Agency for the supply of three SGT-400 gas turbines and generators that will be installed at the Jameson Energy Centre in western Kansas. The three combustion turbines will add approximately 27 MW power to the Garden City, Kansas area. The overall installation and construction will be managed by the engineering company Sega Inc. and the project is expected to be operational in early 2014. 


Hans Holmstroem, CEO of the Business Unit Industrial Power at Siemens Energy said, “The SGT-400 gas turbine is a blend of 25 years’ experience and the latest combustion technologies. The turbine benefits from a simple cycle efficiency of up to 35 percent as well as a high availability ensuring security of supply. To date, Siemens has sold 255 turbines of this type which have reached more than 2 million equivalent operating hours in total.”


Bob Poehling, General Manager of KMEA said the turbines and generators “are configured on trailers that can be quickly transported to and installed at the site. This project represents the first generating assets that KMEA will own. The plant needs to come on-line quickly in order to support peak power needs in the area.”
