The contract saw TNB Prai Sdn Bhd entering into a 20-year service agreement with Siemens AG, which is worth RM631 million. The installation of two Siemens SGT5-8000H gas turbines is a significant milestone for Siemens and the energy ecosystem of Malaysia.
The project is part of the group's RM9.7 billion investment over the next five years to build new power capacity to meet the country's growing electricity demand, said TNB president and CEO Datuk Wira Azman Mohd. "The 1,071MW power plant is due to be completed by 2015."
Meanwhile, TNB said TNB Remaco and partner Kharafi National of Kuwait had received a letter of award from Kuwait's central tender committee to operate and maintain the Shuiba North co-generation plant in Kuwait. TNB said the RM1billion contract is for seven years, and expected to be signed soon. The co-generation plant, a dual-fired power facility using natural gas and distillates, is expected to produce around 780MW of power and 45 million imperial gallons of distilled water per day.
